A plain guide to every part of the thaali kodi, a checklist of wedding jewellery, and how the price is worked out. Read it, then come see us with your plan.
The thaali kodi is the gold chain the bride wears after the thaali is tied. Most families put it together in parts. Here is what each part is.
The pendant tied at the muhurtham. Its design follows family custom. Common styles include Amman, Pillaiyar, Lakshmi and Kombu, and a cross thaali for Christian families. Ask your elders which one your family uses.
The chain itself. Rope, Singapore and flat styles are common. A heavier chain holds up better when it is worn every day.
The decorative clasp piece at the front or back of the chain. It can be plain gold or stone-set.
The gold beads placed on each side of the thaali. They come plain, ribbed or stone-set. The number and order follow family custom.
Many families add gold coins to the kodi, such as a sovereign (about 8 g), a half sovereign (about 4 g) or Lakshmi coins.
Some brides add a broche or other small pieces. Bring a photo of what your family wears and we will match it.
Gold rate × weight, plus a making charge for the work. The making charge depends on the piece and is shown before you buy. See today's rate.
Custom pieces take time to make. Talk to us as soon as you know your muhurtham date, so there is time to pick, order and adjust.
A photo of your family's thaali design, your budget, and your wedding date. If you have old gold, bring it too.
Tick off each piece as you plan. Which side buys what is different for every family, so check with both families first.

A matching set for the ceremony, plus everyday bangles for after.
Usually silver, worn by the bride after the wedding.
Nose ring (mookuthi), anklets (kolusu), and the groom's chain or bracelet.
